After much agonizing over the
perfect title, designing a dummy site from scratch (with no prior design
experience) to lure interest, and sweet talking an amazing group of authors
and Mitch O'Connell, the first issue's artist, Greg
Wharton launched the first issue of suspect thoughts: a journal
of subversive writing in July 2000.
Billed as "Writing and artwork that blurs the lines between genres and
isn't afraid that it might frighten, cause laughter, or confuse, while
arousing sexual desire," and with little marketing other than word of
mouth and a few good connections, the free online journal quickly grew
in both audience and recognition.
Eight years and nineteen issues later, the journal has finally closed.
With the exception of pages tied to specific press titles, the pages are
no longer available in their orginal form online. But each issue has now
been put together as a downloadable PDF. While a few images and Forewords
have disappeared over the years and a few pieces have been pulled or lost,
most of each issue is still available grouped as originally designed.
And each stunning image and word is still here for your enjoyment.
